OnePlus Nord CE vs OnePlus Nord: the 3 biggest differences explained

The brand new OnePlus Nord CE is not the successor to the original Nord, but a new model. In this OnePlus Nord CE vs OnePlus Nord In comparison, we list the biggest differences between the smartphones.

OnePlus Nord CE vs OnePlus Nord vs Nord N10 5G

The OnePlus Nord CE 5G is the latest model in OnePlus’ Nord-series. It started last year with the Nord and was later supplemented by the Nord N10 5G and Nord N100. The latter is a real budget smartphone, while the Nord N10 5G and Nord both are midrange models and differ only tens in price.

Now there’s the Nord CE added. With a suggested retail price from 299 euros, it is just as expensive as the Nord N10 5G. When asked whether the CE version is also the successor to the N10 5G, a OnePlus spokesperson answers in the negative. The Nord CE 5G is a standalone model in the series. However, the spokesperson confirms that the Nord N10 5G will disappear from the shelves of (web) shops and providers later this year.

The three Nordmodels are quite similar in price and specifications, but also differ in important ways. In this OnePlus Nord CE vs OnePlus Nord comparison, we list the three main differences and also take the Nord N10 5G along.

1. New processor and other memory combinations

The OnePlus Nord CE runs on a Snapdragon 750G processor. This chip is about as powerful as the Snapdragon 765G from the Nord and in practice you will hardly notice any speed differences. The Nord CE is a bit smoother than the Nord N10 5G, which has a less advanced Snapdragon 690 processor.

All three smartphones support 5G internet and have 128GB of storage. The Nord CE and Nord are also for sale with 256GB memory, the Nord N10 5G not. On the other hand, the latter is the only model to have a micro-SD card slot, so that you can expand the memory yourself (cheaper).

The Nord N10 5G has 6GB of RAM, where the Nord CE 5G is also available with 8GB and 12GB. The Nord in turn has 8GB as standard and is also available as 12GB model. More RAM means that the smartphone can keep more apps and games running in the background, so you can switch more quickly between recently used apps.

2. Fewer cameras

On the original Nord you will find two selfie cameras on the front and four camera lenses on the back. The Nord N10 5G uses one selfie camera and also four cameras on the back. The operation of the cameras on the back is similar, although the more expensive Nord better photos though.

On the cheaper Nord CE are less (three) and other cameras on the back. The macro camera and depth sensor have been omitted and replaced by a 2 megapixel monochrome lens. The device also has a 64-megapixel main camera and 8-megapixel wide-angle lens. The photo quality cannot match that of the Nord. In the screen you will find one selfie camera.

In terms of cameras, the original OnePlus wins Nord so, which makes sense since it’s the most expensive.

3. Longer updates

A point where the OnePlus Nord CE 5G wins is its software support. As a brand new smartphone, it runs on Android 11 out of the box and you get updates to Android 12 and 13. You can also count on security updates until June 2024, which are regularly distributed.

OnePlus Nord

The update policy (two years of version updates and three years of security updates) is identical to the original Nord. But because it was released a year ago, support also ends a year earlier. This device can still count on Android 12 and security updates until the summer of 2023. It is neat that the Nord CE is updated as often and for a long time as the much more expensive OnePlus 9 and OnePlus 9 Pro.

For the Nord N10 5G is a completely different story. This smartphone will be stuck on Android 11 and will get security updates until November 2022. The update policy of the Nord N10 5G is mediocre with this.

Which OnePlus Nord suits you?

If you are interested in an affordable OnePlus smartphone, you have three models to choose from. In our opinion, the original OnePlus Nord and new OnePlus Nord CE 5G the most interesting.

The N10 5G is simply a bit disappointing, as we also write in our OnePlus Nord N10 5G review. The price reduction of fifty euros does not change that much. Because now that the device costs 299 euros, it is just as expensive as the brand new one Nord CE 5G. The latter is a much better buy because of its more powerful hardware, nicer screen and newer software.

If you want to spend a little more, the original Nord a good choice. The device has more and better cameras and standard more RAM than the Nord CE. The glass design also looks more luxurious than the plastic of the Core Edition. Actually the . performs Nord in only one area less good than its CE variant and that is the software support. The Nord has been on the market for a year and therefore the updates stop a year earlier.
