Apex Legends will launch smoothly on Android phones by the end of 2020

The CEO of Electronic Arts has confirmed that he plans to bring Apex Legends to smartphones around the world by the end of this year. If so, then Fortnite, Call of Duty, and PUBG – all of these free battle royale titles are competing on Android and iOS phones. Respawn and EA’s Apex Legends silently released for Windows, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One early last year, with Nintendo Switch slated for fall this year.

Since its launch, the game has grown in popularity on these platforms and a mobile version was slow to arrive. EA has been planning to bring Apex Legends to mobile for a very long time, especially after seeing the popularity of Fortnite and PUBG mobiles after they launched on mobile devices.

In a fireside chat, Andrew Wilson, CEO of EA confirmed Apex Legend for mobile is slated for a phased launch by the end of 2020. A phased launch towards the end of this year means a final release won’t happen until the first quarter of next year. This can be slightly overwhelming for fans who are waiting to see cross-platform play for Apex Legends to include mobile.

According to Wilson, EA has “Plant Vs. Zombies 3 is already in a phased launch phase. Of course, porting to mobile is a value proposition for EA which should not miss the immense opportunity offered by the mobile platform to game publishers.

With similar battle royale titles garnering immense attention, Apex Legends should find a piece of the pie given its burgeoning popularity on console and PC platforms. No one is sure when EA will bring the title to mobile just yet – the game’s publisher hasn’t given a specific date. We will keep you posted as information circulates.
